FREE PROGRAMS On this page we have a selection of useful tools for making web pages. All are freeware; after downloading and installing each, we urge you to visit the authors' home pages (their addresses can be found in the 'Help' section of each program) to get updates or more recent editions of the programs. HTML Editor We highly recommend Arachnophilia, an HTML editor that does all the work of putting in the tags for you. You need to know HTML, but the button menus make inserting code fast and easy, and this program gives you much more flexibility than a 'drag & drop' web page maker. You can even make your own toolbars, and set up your own web page template so that code that always appears in your pages will be inserted automatically. All colours can be changed automatically by 'right-clicking' on the embedded colour code numbers (you won't have to remember them). Pages you make can be easily viewed in the built-in viewer, or in your own browser. Get Arachnophilia here. It's a 1.48 M zipped download. Image Viewer The small program 'Irfanviewer' is world-renowned for its small size and ease of use. it will open and convert just about any image type, as well as perform some simple image enhancements. This program is freeware, and highly recommended. Get Irfanviewer here. It's an 811 K zipped download. 'Image Map' Maker This program doesn't really make image maps. Instead, it lets you split up a picture into rectangular areas. It then saves all the little pieces in a folder, and creates the code for a web page table that will put the picture back together. Now you can add link tags (a href) to parts of the picture, and your visitors can select pages on your site to visit by clicking on parts of your picture. The program works great! Get Slicer here.
