The next best thing to travelling to countries around the world might be finding out all about them, and then sharing what you've learned with your friends.

That was the idea behind this Travel Fair, which was prepared and put on by a Worsley Grade 9 class.

This particular activity could be a Jr. High Social Studies project, a CTS Tourism module assignment, or just a fun activity to help brighten up a winter day. It could also be used as an Elementary project.

Booths might include samples of food or drink from the country on display, and the appropriate clothing.

Information can be presented in many ways. Simple pictures and text were used here.

The shorts were a nice touch.

Although the displays shown here were static, there is no reason this project couldn't be attempted as a video production for Communications Technology class, or perhaps as a Powerpoint presentation.

A cross-curriculum blend of Social Studies, language studies, and appropriate use of technology would make for a great learning experience.

"Ah, le français ... c'est magnifique!"

Students do all their own research, and prepare the presentation themselves. They also need to be familiar with the particular features of the country or region they have learned about, so they can explain what they have discovered to others.

Depending upon the course in which the project occurs, students might be graded on their display (Art), their oral presentation (Language Arts or Communication Technology), their technology skills, if employed (CTS), and of course the content (Social Studies).

But whatever the purpose of the exercise, students can demonstrate a wide range of skills in the course of completing this project successfully.

Thank you to Mrs. Golinowski and the Grade 9 CTS class for allowing us to share this activity with you.
