Build a Town

We were a little disappointed when we first ran this program; we were expecting an on-screen version that would let you build a town on your computer. Instead, what you get is a simple to install and easy to operate program that does something very simple ... it lets you print out fold-up templates for buildings of all sorts,... banks, stores, homes, etc., that kids can paint or colour, decorate, and fold up.

Then we realized that this is can be a valuable exercise as well, allowing for much creativity and hands-on work, the kind that kids love. The program also lets you print out full instructions, and if you photocopy the various building plans onto construction paper, your class will have a whole town built and set up in no time, and have a lot of fun doing it. The templates are generic enough that students can customize the buildings to match what's in your own community, so this program would make a nice addition to your elementary resources on 'Your Community'.

It's a 300K zipped download that's self-installing; get 'foldinst.exe'  here
