Chinese money is called Renminbi. The basic unit of renminbi is the Yuan. A Yuan is about the equivalent of our quarter, and is worth about 18.7¢. This doesn't seem like a lot, but it's important to remember that the average worker in China does not make a lot of money. There are smaller denominations too: one Yuan is equal to ten Jiao, and one Jiao is equal to ten Fen. So a Fen is one hundredth of a Yuan, or about a fifth of a cent. This is what a 1-Yuan bill looks like:

Here's how to convert from their currency to ours:

1 Yuan = $0.187 Canadian
If you have some Yuan, multiply the amount you have by $0.187.
That will tell you how many Canadian dollars you have.

For example, suppose you have 550 Yuan.
This would be 550 x $0.187 = $93.50 Canadian dollars

Here's how to convert from our currency to theirs:

1 Canadian Dollar = 5.35 Yuan
If you have some Canadian dollars, multiply the amount you have by 5.35.
That will tell you how many Yuan you have.

For example, suppose you have 35 Yuan.
This would be 35 x 5.35 = 187 Yuan.

Remember that the value of money changes from day to day, so the values we used here may be slightly different today!
