Following the tragedy in New York City on September 11, 2001, many observers wondered exactly why the World Trade Center buildings collapsed as they did, and if there is any way to rescue people in general from a skyscraper in trouble, without rescuers having to climb all the way up inside. In these pages we'll look at the World Trade Center the way it was, the collapse of the buildings, including some dramatic photos taken from a satellite overhead, and we'll try to explain how the towers were constructed and why they fell. We'll also examine a rescue method that might save people in future from burning high rise buildings.
