The TI83+ calculator is the only calculator supported for use in the Senior High mathematics program at Worsley School. This calculator is a requirement for students enrolled in the following high school courses: Pure Mathematics 10, 20, 30, Applied Mathematics 10, 20, 30.
The TI83+ is a very versatile calculator, and will allow programs to be run to perform specific functions not contained in its own program bank. Users can write their own programs for specific purposes. Some of these programs are necessary for class use in the above mathematics courses. Many are freely available for download from the internet. We have included some of the most useful ones here for you to download and use; included are all of the programs required for use in the classroom, as well as some other useful utilities, and even a few of the better games.

You will need the TI83+ downlink cable in order to install these on your calculator (it can be purchased for about $20-30). You'll also need the free uplink/editing software which comes with it. This software makes it much easier to write programs ... you can do them on your computer and transfer them to the calculator. If you don't have these yet, you can still download and save the programs below. Students are reminded that programs may not be used on Diploma exams, and will be deleted upon entering the exam room.
These programs are made available 'as-is', and Worsley School OnLine does not provide support or programming help, nor will it be responsible for any problems caused by their use (although we have tested them all and they work reliably). Consult the text documentation that comes with each program for help with operation,, or contact the programmer directly. Some programs designed for Applied Mathematics courses are meant to be used with the CBR and CBL. These special data gathering devices are used in the classroom. Programs which are meant for use with these devices are noted.

| Applied Math 10, 20, 30 Required Utilities |
- Reset Resets the calculator MODE and FORMAT settings. Handy!
Applied Math 10
- Convert Converts SI and Imperial units
- Dice Sum Simulates the random throwing of a pair of dice. Shows a histogram of results.
- Light Operates the light intensity probe (for use with the CBL)
- Cool Temp Measures temperature over a period of time (for use with the CBL)
- Decay Simulates a decay process with 50% chance of decay, and graphs exponentially
- Bounce Runs the motion detector probe (CBR or CBL required)
- Slope Calculates the slope from the coordinates of two points
- Choose Use to select good data from lists plotted
- Grab Allows you to select specific data points from a scatter plot
Applied Math 20
- Heat Runs a temperature probe (using the CBL)
- Ball Drop Motion detector for a free-falling object (for use with the CBL or CBR)
- World Pop Investigates popu;ation growth
- Lines Plots pairs of lines in format 'ax+by=c' so you can find the intersection point.
- Treevol Calculates the volume of useful timber in a tree

| Miscellaneous Math and Science Utilities |
- Geometry
Miscellaneous algebraic calculations, including circle arc length, area, circumference, & sector area, regular polygon area, sphere surface area & volume, triangle area, and the Pythagorean Theorem
- Slope
Finds the equation, slope, y-intercept, and x-intercept for linear functions.
You can enter data as two points, one point and slope, or slope and y-intercept
- Elements
A simple periodic table. Type in the atomic number and the mass and
it tells you the number of protons, neutrons and electrons. You can also identify elements by their symbol (eg: enter the symbol 'Mg' and it returns 'magnesium')
- Binomial Expansions
Expands binomials that are in the
form (ax + by)c. Works with exponents up to and including 15
- Mental Math
Run math drills on your calculator, to improve your mental operation skills
- Series
Solve arithmetic and geometric series problems

These programs were written by Eyvind H. and Justin J. Use them to check homework or test answers, but don't rely on them for answers; you must show work on tests. None are permitted in the Math 30 classroom.
These programs are written to take up the minimum amount of memory, so they aren't fancy. For example, 'No answer' as a solution returns an error. Prompts are for variables only; you may want to print this page.

Do you have some programs that you would like to share with others? Or perhaps you write your own programs, and would like to freely distribute them. We are always interested in adding more programs to our library. All you have to do is describing the program, and including it as an attachment.
