Super giants are very massive stars. The largest can be the width of our solar system. They burn much hotter than normal stars (which outnumber them 10,000 to 1) and so have a lifetime of only 10 to 100 million years. The Hubble image above shows a cluster containing many blue supergiants; the gas cloud nearby is condensing to form new stars.
