Meteors can be seen with the naked eye. Stand outside on a cloudless night for about 15 minutes, until your eyes get adapted to the dark. Soon you should be able to spot a meteor or two every few minutes. During some months of the year, as the earth passes through 'clouds' of rock particles in its orbit around the sun, you can see a meteor every few seconds. Most burn up in the atmosphere.
