Jupiter is the largest planet; it has no 'surface'; it's a ball of hydrogen, methane, and other gases, much like the sun. It may in fact be a companion star to the sun that wasn't quite large enough to sustain nuclear fusion; at least half of all stars seem to be paired. Jupiter has many moons, some of which have been photographed up-close by probe 'fly-by's'. Jupiter is so large, many 'earths' could fit inside just the 'Red Spot' (visible in lower center). The bands result from strong wind movement.
