This is a view of the center of our galaxy. You can barely make it out; one of the spiral arms of our galaxy , containing a lot of dust and gas, is in the way. Looking out along these arms (our sun is in one of them) where stars are concentrated, gives us the view we see as the Milky Way. (Sort of like looking at the horizon through a bunch of trees in your back yard).
