Density is the amount of mass in a certain volume of a substance. To find the density of any object or substance, you need to know the volume and mass of it. The density of fluids is measured in g/mL; solids are measured in g/cm3. (1 mL being the same amount as 1 cm3). When measuring the density after finding the mass and volume, you put it in to a simple formula:
Density equals mass divided by volume, but this formula isn't only for finding density. If you switch the letters around or change the direction in which you are calculating, you can find mass or volume with this formula too. For example:
To help you to understand better on how to calculate density, I am going to take the volume of a simple weight which is 9 cm3 in volume, and whose mass is 100g, and find the density:
So the density of this particular weight would be 11.1 g/cm3and that is how you calculate density. |
