The lowland rainforests of Colombia in South America are home to this amazingly beautiful poison frog, Dendrobates lehmanni. Found in a variety of colors, the yellow and black pattern is an amazing one, and warns its predators that it is definitely not good to eat! Notice the distinctive white toe tips.

Many species of frogs in South America are poisonous. As with all poison frogs, eggs are deposited on the forest floor, usually in leaf litter, until the eggs hatch. Poison frog parents allow the tadpoles to squirm onto their backs, and the adult carries the tadpole to water. The female returns regularly to her tadpoles and deposits infertile food eggs for them to eat.
