OTHER TOOLS

Photoshop Elements contains many other tools you can experiment with. Particularly useful are the automatic corrections you can instantly make to a photograph.

We really like the ones found in the Enhance menu. At the right we chose Auto Smart Fix, which fixes problems like poor exposure, contrast, colour balance, or colour saturation with one click.

The menu also lets you individually adjust lighting, contrast and colours, automatically or manually.

Below is an example that illustrates once more the use of Auto Smart Fix. The photo on the left is washed out and not very sharp; using the tool (centre picture) results in a much improved photograph (right).

Also in the Enhance menu is a tool for fixing red-eye, which works very well. Select the Red-eye Removal tool (it's the 'eye' button on the left menu). The settings for the tool are along the top; we used a darken amount of 45%. Just click in the centre of the red eye and the fix is automatic!

Explore all of the menus in Photoshop to see what you can do. There are a lot of interesting effects in the Filter menu. Below is just one simple example of what you'll find if you look around. (We did this using the Smart Brush tool in the left menu bar).
