ADDING & SUBTRACTING POLYNOMIALS by Ryan B.
Adding Polynomials:

When you are adding like terms, just add them together. Don't change the exponents.

6x² + 8x² = 14x²

Brackets can be dropped.

(3x² - 5x) + (2x² - 4x)
= 3x² - 5x + 2x² - 4x
= 5x² - 9x

Subtracting Polynomials:

When subtracting, the exponent also stays the same, and the coefficients get subtracted.

8x² - 4x² = 4x²

When you are subtracting brackets, the terms in the bracket after the subtraction sign change.

(6x² - 5x) - (4x² - 6x)
= 6x² - 5x - 4x² + 6x
= 2x² + 1x
