The 'largest tree'? What does 'largest' mean? For trees, this can be the height of the tree, or the volume of wood in the tree. In each case, there is a 'biggest' specimen. We'll tell you all about them.

Both record holders are Redwoods, but there is more than one type of Redwood ...
botanists recognize three species:

- Coast Redwood (Sequoia sempervirens)
- Giant Sequoia (Sequoiadendron giganteum)
- Dawn Redwood (Metasequoia glyptostrobides)

The first two can be found only in California; the third is native to a remote region in China.
The Coast Redwood is the tallest of the three types, while the Giant Sequoia is heaviest and oldest.
