Students can learn all of the basic photo manipulation techniques in a graphics program by inserting their picture into another photograph. In order to merge two photos successfully, students will have to be able to selectively stitch-crop an image, enlarge and reduce, lighten, apply sharpness and shadow, change the colour balance, paste, and smudge.

Photo backgrounds can be obtained from the internet, or from a computer game, using the 'print-screen' key ... some examples shown here were taken from the 'Carnivores' games. All of the blended images shown on this page (except for 'Dance Lesson') were created by students in grades 7-9. Generally a picture takes about 30 minutes to do properly.

All work is done on pictures that are in .bmp format; the final result is saved as a .jpg image. Student photographs in the pose of their choice were taken with a digital camera and transferred to their working folder.

The 'Best Carnivores Picture' award of 5 Prize Points went to Sheena, for her Dinosaur Karate picture above.
