Improving community satisfaction with education

- We will use newsletters, our website and informal progress reports to provide information concerning students.

- We will provide high school orientation in grade 9 for parents and students.

- We will provide more opportunities for parents to see the school in action. (eg: Dessert Night and Open House, `Bring Your Parents to Class' (by grade)

- We will continue to provide and maintain the quality of our traditional opportunities for parents to see the school in action. (eg: Science Fair, Awards Night, Christmas Concert, Talent Show, Chess, sports, `Reach for the Top')

 - We will organize a Post Secondary Information Night, which will include a session on filling out various forms.

Improving coordination of services for children

- We will use the services of our recently hired counsellor. (individual & group counseling, presentations)

- We will continue to access SHIP and CASE as needed.

Increasing high school completion rates

- We will continue to provide and  more closely monitor varied opportunities for all students to complete courses required for graduation via videoconferencing, on-line courses, work experience and Green Certificates, as well as  teacher-taught courses.

- We will continue to accommodate students' various learning styles by using modified programs and IPP's.

 - We will work more closely with Menno Simons School concerning at-risk students. (esp. gr. 8, and early in the school year)

Improving secondary student achievement in mathematics

- We will continue to offer Math 10 Prep 

- We will continue to provide extra hours for the Math 9 course

Improving learning through effective use of information and communication technology

- We will continue to make full use of videoconferencing during school hours.

- We will advocate sending additional courses from Worsley.

- We will explore the possibility of offering Adult Education courses

 - We will explore the possibility of offering synchronous Computer courses.

 

- We will explore the possibility of computer-based ADLC team teaching.

 

- We will develop a staff plan for using technology in each grade, including a PD session on the use of Inspiration and various computer use procedures

-Our first experience was not satisfactory, but we remain open to the possibility of using it in the future

Improving early literacy and numeracy

- We will continue the use of `Power of Ten' for improving numeracy skills.

 - We will provide more creative timetabling to allow for small-group instruction.

 -  We will continue to focus on improving students' vocabulary.

Improving programs, results and reporting for First Nations, Metis & Inuit learners.

- We will engage in discussion with Central Office regarding programming for FNMI students.

- We will advocate for a FNMI worker for WCS.

- We will encourage self-identification of FNMI students through school registration forms.

 - We will promote multiculturalism

 

We now have a liaison worker, and in conjunction with Bill Sewepagham we have received resources for use in our classes.
