2006-7![]() Bailey, Colby, Leslie, Chantelle, Renessa, Megan, Emily, Chelsie Absent: Mrs. Basnett ![]() ![]() On Nov. 2 our SADD group spent the day trying to demonstrate how serious the problem of drinking and driving is. Every 23 minutes, a student was removed from class and given a white face and a sign that described how they had been 'killed' by a drunk driver. That's about how often someone in North America is killed in an accident involving an impaired driver. Our SADD group runs with the guidance of Julie Duncan and Jackie Basnett. As a student-led group, members run meetings and events. They have accepted the challenge well. Our SADD group has about 10 members; they elected Leslie as President, Chelsie as Vice President, and Emily as Secretary. The members are excited about this opportunity and bring much enthusiasm, as well as ideas, to the meetings. Students in grades 7–12 who are interested in SADD but have not yet joined are welcome to do so at any time. Please check our SADD bulletin board for updates. We all know it's a problem. You've seen the beer cans along the side of the road, and you've watched as a friend or a spouse got behind the wheel to drive home after drinking. We need to get the message to these idiots that this behaviour won't be tolerated in our community. You can help. Take away their keys. Offer them a place to stay, or a ride home. Be a designated driver. Do something …before someone in our community dies from the thoughtless and irresponsible actions of a driver who has been drinking. |
