When the English language just isn't good enough ...
Quiquid latine dictum sit altum viditur.
We were pretty sure you'd be interested in this. Latin may be a dead language, but there are lots of times when you have something important to say and English doesn't seem anywhere near good enough.
Besides, an obscure Latin sentence thrown in here and there will make you look smarter. Anything that helps, right?

By the way, the phrase under the title translates loosely as "Whatever is said in Latin seems profound". Enough said!

Here are some common Latin phrases that we're sure you'll find very useful.

Latin:

  • Me transmitte sursum, Caledoni!

  • Quantum materiae materietur marmota monax si marmota monax materiam possit materiari?

  • Si hoc legere scis, nimis eruditionis habes.

  • Si tu dixero, necesse erit ut tu interficiam.

  • Ipse valere opto et taetrum hunc deponere morbum.

English:

  • Beam me up, Scotty!

  • How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?

  • If you can read this, you are overeducated.

  • If I told you, I'd have to kill you.

  • I wish I were healthy and didn't have this horrible disease.
