She wrote:"I chose Grant Wright's 'Sunset' as the first place photo because this photograph is a really stunning display of colour and variance of texture, especially between the wispy cloud cover and the silhouetted vegetation in the forefront of the shot. This photograph seems to best illustrate the natural beauty of northern Alberta. "Josh Wasylciw's 'Summer in the Mountains 2' which I picked for second place had a good balance between the various depths of field, allowing for a much stronger feeling of immensity here than in the other images. The shooter has organized the photograph very effectively, as there are objects of visual interest in all planes of the image. "Rick Carleton's 'Sunflower' is a very captivating shot; the sharp focus on the flower - as well as a strong contrast of hue - has the effect of making the image appear to jump out at the viewer. The presence of the insect offers a valuable indication of scale, further drawing the attention of the onlooker towards the center of the composition." |
